The ambition of the ACROPORA project is to design biomimetic solutions for tropical and subtropical environments based on a research program on Tahitian reef barriers.
These unique solutions, currently under development, will be used in these specific environments to to attenuate the swell under marine weather forcing and to decrease the levels of marine submersion while providing a zone of habitats and nurseries favorable for endemic species. They will also serve as optimal support for the transplantation of coral individuals and effectively participate in the ecological restoration of these extraordinary communities, particularly vulnerable and critically endangered in the face of current climatic and anthropogenic pressures.
