Traditionally made of dense, monolithic concrete, the commonly used weights primarily serve an anchoring function.
These inert and impermeable structures to life are designed without real consideration for their impact on marine ecosystems. The eco-design approach now allows for rethinking the role of the weight, not just as a functional mass, but as an active support favorable to the bio-colonization of benthic micro and macro-organisms. With a bio-inspired 3D shell, optimized macro-geometries, and the use of low-carbon shell-based mortar, BrainLine© weights combine operational robustness with ecological performance, without compromising functional requirements for the port.
It is in this context that the city of Marseillan entrusted LINEUP OCEAN with a project to immerse two eco-designed BrainLine© weights within the Marseillan-Plage harbor. Once immersed, the weights serve as supports for maritime signage in regulated areas marking no-anchoring zones and limiting speed to three knots in the channel, while also creating habitat for local benthic species.
BrainLine© eco-weights offer an innovative and sustainable alternative to traditional anchoring solutions by combining eco-design techniques with ecological benefits.
